Interesting foliage

Whilst there's not much in the garden right now, what there is, is interesting.

This fig tree shoot looks like a monster fingernail to me...

These 'fronds' keep wafting in the breeze, rather hypnotically

they remind me of a large caterpillar :)

and on walks too, this tree is covered in a rich lichen in a bright (almost chartreuse) green

I can't wait for some colour & flowers, but in the meantime I'm happy finding this beautiful, interesting foliage :) x

New fabric

I received some great post at the weekend, these fab fabrics from Melody Miller's new collection, Ruby Star Shining....

fab typewriters

and retro clocks

The typewriters also come in teal and the clocks in rust.  I haven't decided what I'm using them for just yet, but they're fab!

I'm also loving the following Michael Miller fabrics, just need to save those pennies now :)

Bug jars (eternal maker)
Birch forest (eternal maker)

windy day (eternal maker)

French roast (eternal maker)
your place or mine (eternal maker)

Big top (eternal maker)

I just love discovering new fabric collections don't you? :) x

She & Him (again)

Knowing how much I loved the She & Him Christmas album, Hubby bought me their two other albums for Christmas, Volume 1 and 2.

Volume One [VINYL]

Volume 2 [VINYL]

He bought both on vinyl (yay) and they kindly included a download.  They're now on constant repeat on my ipod.

If you haven't heard them, I recommend a listen HERE! x

Pin dish

I found a lovely little vintage dish on Friday in a charity shop, which I think will make a perfect pin dish.  I plan on glueing a small magnet to the underside which will help keep the pins inside :)

Weekend frost

The weather has changed again, there's now a layer of perma-frost, and the weekend was full of lovely fresh, cold, sunny days (hurrah!).  That meant lots of lovely walks with Dusty...

Everywhere looks so beautiful and personally I'd take this weather over wet & windy any day, long may it be frosty! x

2012 to do list

Well, the "first draft" is up on the "To do List 2012" page, you can see it here.

I've carried over some things I didn't manage in 2011 that I'd still like to do, but I've added some new things too :)

I've started work on a few already! x

Things I'm liking right now - in this wet & windy weather

The weather has been truly hideous recently, gale-force winds and rain, rain, rain.  Some days we don't see the light, you get up the dark, there's no sun all day, you go home in the dark.  In these miserable days, here are a few things I'm dreaming of helping me through these dark days...

from the wonderful Indigo & Rose, who have fantastic homeware & petware...

recycled-wool draught excluders to keep out those drafts

indigo & rose

our hot water bottle's getting used every day, a new one might be needed, these are gorgeous

indigo & rose

these delightful dachshund's are actually wheatbags ready for heating and cuddling

indigo & rose

alternatively they have this cute scottie wheatbag too

indigo & rose

and these fabulous cushions are from Solitaire, who have fantastic hand-printed illustrations, don't you just want to snuggle up on the sofa with them...

I'm feeling warmer already.  Have a fab weekend. x

Agatha Christie books

You probably know by now how much I love Agatha Christie books; and as I've posted before, I have a great hardback collection from my Mum that she collected in the 1960's.

Well, they've started to do another publication of all her books, with the original artwork taken from the first editions.  Each fortnight you get a thin magazine with info on the author, the era the book was written & characters in the book - for me, the magazine isn't much, but the books are cool.

Thing is it says it's her complete works - that's over 70 novels & 120 short stories! Which is a big commitment & adds up to a lot of money when you look at it.  Still, for people who haven't got her books, but want them, it's a great way to do it & who know I might yet :) x

Holiday finds

Over the holiday we had a few charity shop (& ebay finds).

I found this fantatic vintage glass jelly mould in a charity shop

and some more fab audio books - if you've never read/heard a Just William book they're well worth a try - lots of short stories about the wonderfully mischievious William & his band of 'outlaws', read brilliantly by Martin Jarvis...

I recently found three posy vases with coloured bottoms in charity shops, then found this collection on ebay...

...they look lovely in the light & are perfect for a single stem placed around the house.

Last year M&S brought out a fab tin, shaped as a custard cream biscuit, & mine now holds lots of crafting supplies. This year they've brought out a bourbon biscuit one, so of course I had to have one :) ...
